5 SW Independence-Swift Creek A tornado touched down 5 miles southwest of Independence and moved east northeast. The tornado crossed Highway 82 south of Swift Creek. One church was destroyed, one church was damaged, 20 homes were damaged, a store was un-roofed, and several farm buildings were destroyed. Numerous trees were uprooted or were snapped off.
